Dogs have survived for thousands of years eating raw food. Most of us would have seen our dog eat that unwanted piece of garbage or rotten food at the park, with no ill effects.
Dogs have enzymes in their saliva and stomach that destroy most bacteria. The key as with most things is common sense:
Wash your hands before and after serving your dogs food.
Wash their bowls and any utensils used to serve the food separately and thoroughly after use.
Freeze the food and refrigerate 24-36 hours before use.
Food that has been frozen, then thawed, should not be kept longer than 3 days refrigerated.
